Wilma Jean Speed, 63, of Litchfield, died at 1 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, in St. John’s Hospice, Springfield.
Services were to be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Oley Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation was to be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Montgomery County Cancer Association or Litchfield Food Pantry.
Mrs. Speed was born on June 26, 1945, in Carbondale, the daughter of William D. and Beulah M. Holbrook Lovall. She married Charles Wayne Speed on March 5, 1960, in Litchfield.
Over the years, she worked at Roller Derby Skate Corp., Fashion Lane and Wal-Mart, all in Litchfield, as a greeter and sales clerk. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, doing crafts and doll-making.
She is survived by her husband; son, Thomas Speed of Mebane, N.C.; daughter, Sharon and her husband Mark Crawford of Litchfield; brothers, Billy Robertson, Charles Lovall, and Robert Lovall and his wife Debbie, all of Vandalia; sisters, Betty Hicks of Vandalia, and Josephine and her husband Richard Pruitt of Herrin; grandchildren, Scott Crawford, Jason Crawford and his wife Christina, and Brandy and her husband Ben McCario; and great-grandchildren, Chevelle and Nova Crawford, and David McCario.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, James Randolph Robertson; and a sister, Janis Duff.
