Shirley E. Stewart Lape, 84, of Effingham and formerly of Vandalia, died at 4:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Pastor John Hollis officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, rural Fillmore. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: Lutheran Care Center.
Mrs. Lape was born on May 12, 1924, in Otego Township in Fayette County, the daughter of Melvin “Pappy” and Leafa Guila Shope Stokes. She married Alvin W. Stewart; she later married Wallace Lape.
She was a retired employee of Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Co., formerly of Vandalia.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Norman Stewart and his wife Vickie of Vandalia, David Stewart and his wife Vicki of Effingham, and Donald Doyle and his wife Patti of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; stepdaughters, Pam and her husband Don Riggs of Pana, and Crystal and her husband Kevin Aukamp of Vandalia; sisters, Frances Schroedel of Panama, and Dorothy and her husband Gerald Largent of Vandalia; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ervin Stewart, in 1964; stepdaughter, Nancy Lape, in 1968; two brothers; and two sisters.
