John H. Thompson Jr., 54, of Carterville, died on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at South Gate Nursing Home in Metropolis.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Pinhook Cemetery in rural Bluff City, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Day Funeral Home in Patoka was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: The family.
Mr. Thompson was born on July 15, 1954, in Washington Park, the son of John H. Sr. and Darlene K. Beaver Thompson. He married Marilyn Ann Carrico on Dec. 5, 1986, in Fayette County.
He was an oilfield sand blaster, and worked at Mega Industries in Louisiana and Texas as a barge deck hand helping to move river freight. He lived in Louisiana and Texas before moving to Carterville in 1995. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife; mother; stepsons, Kevin Hollowell of Vandalia, Glen Hollowell of Donaldson and Edward Hollowell of Vandalia; stepdaughter, Teresa Allsopp of Carterville; brothers, Jim Thompson of Salem, and Leroy Thompson, David Thompson and Brian Thompson, all of Vernon; sister, Kathy Richerson of Centralia; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
