Lawrence D. “Frog” Garrison, 62, of St. Elmo died on Dec. 10, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Services were held 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in St. Elmo. Burial with military rites were in Maplewood Cemetery, in St. Elmo. Visitation was Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials: St. Elmo DARE program.
Mr. Lawrence was born on Aug. 8, 1946 in Brownstown, the son of Hallie E. and Irma L. Blankenship Garrison.
He served in the Navy during Vietnam and achieved the rank of petty officer second class. He was a truck driver for Cumberland Trail Growers and was previously employed by the city of St. Elmo. He was a member of the Illinois Chapter of Narcotics Anonymous/Alcoholics Anonymous.
He is survived by his mother, of St. Elmo; brothers, Russell and his wife Rennie Garrison of Tamms, Gene Garrison of St. Elmo and Allen Garrison of Pleasant View, Tenn.; sisters, Norma and her husband Clyde Tharp of Effingham, Pat McDowell of St. Elmo, and Carolyn and her husband Todd Stogsdill of Troy, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother-in-law, Dale McDowell; nephew, Mark Hillhouse; and a great-niece, Grace Horsman.
