H. Ben Ellicott, 83, of Morrison and formerly of Vandalia, died on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Four Seasons Center in Morrison.
At his request, his body was donated to the Northern Illinois University of Department of Biological Sciences. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Brethren in Christ Church in Morrison.
Mr. Ellicott was born on Feb. 25, 1925, in Vandalia. He married Mary Willms on Sept. 8, 1949, in St. Elmo.
He grew up during the Great Depression and served with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1950 and joined General Electric that same year. He was transferred to Morrison in 1952. His passions were faith, family, farming and a distinct love of country.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Jim Ellicott of Fenton, Tom Ellicott of Gettysburg, Pa., and Max Ellicott of Cordova, along with their wives; sisters, Adah Manby of Rockford and Harriet Hagen of Kings Mountain, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
