Otto J. Davis, 78, of Ramsey and formerly of the Maroa/Forsyth area, died at 6:09 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Ramsey, with the Rev. Glenn Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Ramsey, with military rites accorded by Anderson-Scoggins American Legion Post No. 460 of Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey and one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Mr. Davis was born on May 13, 1930, in Ramsey, the son of Lawrence Franklin and Fern Melissa Baldwin Davis. He married Hazel Leillian Radcliff on March 19, 1955, in East St. Louis.
He was a retired pipefitter for Caterpillar in Decatur. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ramsey, Cerro Gordo American Legion Post (former commander), United Auto Workers Local 751 Skilled Trades of Decatur, Anderson-Scoggins American Legion Post No. 460, Lions Club and Ramsey Village Board, serving as a trustee for four years. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife; son, Larry Davis and his wife Jill of O’Fallon, daughters, Carol Ann and her husband Doug Lauterbur of Stuart, Fla., and Brenda Housel of Ramsey; special children, Tim and Linda Kite of Oakley; brother, Bernard Davis and his wife Rita of Joliet; sister, Shelby Jean and her husband Robert Lockwood of Spencer, Ind.; grandsons, Kris and his wife Jen, Nicholas, and Jay and his wife Whitney; great-grandsons, Isabel, Emma and Kobyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lauren; and twin grandchildren, Andrew and Michelle.
