Bernard J. “Red” Wachholz, 74, of Farina, died on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with the Rev. William Emrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Rankin Funeral Home in Farina and an hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials: St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Farina Volunteer Ambulance Service.
Mr. Wachholz was born on July 2, 1934, in Farina, the son of Ewald J. and Lorna Bernhardt Wachholz. He married Barbara Ann Sapp on Sept. 10, 1953, in Mt. Vernon. They later divorced.
He was a retired plumber, a member of the Salem Leckrone Field Flying Club and a former volunteer fireman with the Farina Fire Department. He was confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by a son, Randy Wachholz of Salem; daughters, Gina Williams and friend Jerry Walker of Salem, Brenda and her husband Robert Hutchcraft of Summerville, S.C., and Becki and her husband Paul Bravo of Arlington, Texas; brother, Charles Wachholz of Farina; sisters, Rosemary Sears of Herrin and Ann Mills of Eugene, Ore.; grandchildren, Phillip Wachholz of Salem, Shawn Keith of Hollywood, Calif., and Taylor Hutchcraft of Summerville, S.C.; and great-grandchildren, Devin and Samantha Wachholz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul and Calvin R. Wachholz.
