Mary O. Baldock, 87, of Vandalia, died at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Pastor Kurt Simon officiating. Private burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia at a later date. Visitation was held an hour before services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Baldock was born on May 16, 1921, in Mt. Olive, Miss., the daughter of Richard Dolphus and Mary Eula Smith Lingle. She married George Baldock on Aug. 9, 1991, in Vandalia; he died on Dec. 2, 2005.
She was a retired registered nurse, working in that occupation for 19 years, and a retired social worker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid, a position she held for 22 years. She served in the nurses corps with the Army during World War II.
She is survived by sons, William Edward Stringer and his wife Cheryl of New Glouster, Maine, and Richard Stringer and his wife Malin of Arusha, Tanzania-East Africa; daughter, Merre Tama and her husband Brian Beling of Glen Burnie, Md.; stepchildren, Rodger Baldock and his wife Ruth of Pana, Pamela and her husband Michael Wampler of Mackinaw, and Patricia and her husband David Worms of Wildwood, Mo.; grandchild, Eric Beling; seven stepgrandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
