Laverne “Bud” Evans, 86, of Vandalia, died at 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo, with Pastor Tim Logue officiating. Friends and family may gather at the cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice or Friends and Families of Fayette County Hospital.
Mr. Evans was born on June 23, 1922, in Effingham, the son of James Perry and Mamie Crum Evans. He married Dorothy Mae Logue on Oct. 20, 1956, in Decatur.
He was a mechanic for Craycroft Motors in Vandalia, and was affiliated with the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Marty Evans and his wife Barbara of Vandalia, Vernon Evans of Vandalia, and Max Evans and his wife Kristy of Vandalia; daughter, Melissa and her husband Donald Tarrant of Beecher City; grandchildren, Chrissy, Nathan, Sally, Brian, Emily, Dakota and Braden; and great-grandchildren, Corie and Kayden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
