Ruby Mae Carpenter, 73, of Vandalia, died at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital ICU in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Temple Baptist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Loren File officiating. Private burial is on Friday in South Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials: Temple Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carpenter was born on March 21, 1935, in Vandalia, the daughter of Isadore Howard and Florence Ethel Wetherell Oary. She married James G. Carpenter on June 14, 1953, in Vandalia.
She was a cook for Vandalia Community Schools, a member of Temple Baptist Church, a former member of the Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 Auxiliary and life member of Old Capitol Post 3862 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She is survived by daughters, Betty Carpenter and Tony Summers of Vandalia, and Janet and her husband Joe Rolfingsmeier of Vandalia; sons, Mike Carpenter and his wife MaryAnn of Greenville, Rodger Carpenter and his wife Debbie of Vandalia, David Carpenter and Betty Keith of Vandalia, Carl Carpenter and his wife Terry of Florissant, Mo., Tom Carpenter of Vandalia and Paul Carpenter of St. Augustine, Fla.; brother, Charles Oary and his wife Chris of Mulberry Grove; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters.
