Emma Louise Sutton, 86, of Girard and formerly of Vandalia, died at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Montgomery Nursing & Rehab Center in Hillsboro.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: American Cancer Society or Cerebral Palsy.
Mrs. Sutton was born on Oct. 16, 1921, in Vandalia, the daughter of Joseph T. and Minnie Frances Burnett Wright. She married Thomas F. Kirkman; he preceded her in death. She married Clarence Sickman; he preceded her in death. She married Earl F. Sutton on Aug. 18, 1990, in Waverly; he preceded her in death.
After graduating from Vandalia High School in 1939, she studied practical nursing in Dixon. She was a licensed practical nurse at Chicago West Suburban Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Pleasant View Primitive Baptist Church in Girard and Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Fillmore. She loved playing Scrabble and cards.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Alice and her husband Keith C. Carter of Fillmore, and Linda and her husband Gene Lopez of Moline; stepsons, Virgil Sutton and his wife Suzanne of Girard, Wendell Sutton and his wife Joan of Girard, Henry Sutton and his wife Karen of Girard, Wayne Sutton and his wife Vicky of Stoughton, Wash., Jacob E. Miller and his wife Barb of California, and Marvin Sickman of California; stepdaughter, Hilda Bettis of Girard; five grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several great-great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; son, Joe David Kirkman; and four brothers.
