Valeria ‘Butchie’ Diveley, 81, of Vandalia, died at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at her home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Rev. Eddie Diveley and Pastor Adam Cruse officiating. Burial will be in South Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Southside Church in Litchfield or Fayette County Health Department Hospice in Vandalia.
Mrs. Diveley was born on March 25, 1927, in Bond County, the daughter of the Henry and Hazel Elam Shipley. She married the Rev. Dale Melford Diveley on April 13, 1946, in Vandalia; he died on Sept.18, 2002.
She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Church in Litchfield.
She is survived by sons, the Rev. Eddie Diveley and his wife Linda of Litchfield, and Danny Diveley of Vandalia; daughter, Thelma and her husband George Tate of Decatur; brothers, Lloyd Shipley and his wife Lila of Taylor Springs, and Melvin Shipley and his wife Ruth of Mulberry Grove; sisters, Henrietta File of Greenville, Myrtle Widger of Greenville, Pansy and her husband Lloyd Finley of Lockport, and Sue and her husband John Hagler of Pocahontas; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Earl, Claude and Lonnie; sister, Elsie Ruot; and great-grandson, Karson Dowling.
