Lela Mae Montgomery, 65, of Coffeen and formerly of Vandalia, died at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen, with the Rev. Myron Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Coffeen. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: American Heart Association.
Mrs. Montgomery was born on Nov. 9, 1942, in Vandalia, the daughter of William and Ruth Worley Hartman. She married Kenneth David Montgomery Sr. on Nov. 23, 1959, in Hillsboro; he died on Oct. 14, 1993.
She lived in Schram City and then on a farm in Coffeen for 45 years. She was a dietary supervisor at a nursing home in Litchfield, a certified nurse’s aid at Hillsboro Area Hospital and a supervisor at KFC in Litchfield, and was a cake decorator. She was a member of New Life Christian Church in Coffeen.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth David Montgomery Jr. and his wife Gayna of Vandalia, and Leroy Montgomery Sr. and his wife Julie of Coffeen; daughters, Linda Kay and her husband William Slaymaker of Greenville, and Brenda and her husband Roy Segrest Sr. of Coffeen; grandchildren, Tyler Montgomery and his wife Stefanie, Jamie Montgomery, Trevor Montgomery, Tiffany and her husband Michael Schneider, Amanda Houser, Elizabeth and her husband Wesley Gasser, Roy Segrest Jr. and his wife Alissa, Tony Segrest, Leroy Montgomery Jr. and Norman Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Conner Houser; sisters, Reva and her husband Jim Mehlberg, Marcella Jenkins and Roberta Mehlbert; bothers, Charles Hartman, and Allen Reed and his wife Sheila; and best friend, Evia Dyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Norman and William Hartman; and sister, Lillian Golden.
