Robert H. ‘Chris’ Young, 75, of Vandalia, died at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at this residence.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery in South Hill Cemetery, Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia, First Baptist Church of Vandalia, Fayette County Health Department Hospice or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Mr. Young was born on Nov. 22, 1932, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Fred A. and Ora Jackson Young. He married Glenda Roadarmel on Nov. 11, 1956, in Vandalia.
He served in the Army for 28 years and was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vandalia and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kim and her husband Ron Romine of Pana, and Debra and her husband Kevin Wildt of Niceville, Fla.; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; brother, Earl Young and his wife Nora of Ottumwa, Iowa; and sisters, Greta Vest of Clinton, Iowa, Marjorie and her husband Ed Cullinah of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Connie and her husband Charles Rusbit of Ottumwa, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Clayton, Maurice, Charles, Dale and Raymond Young.
