Rodney D. Irvin, 43, McLeansboro

Rodney Dale Irvin, 43, of McLeansboro and formerly of Fayette County, died at 12:18 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton, Mo.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Ken Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Hill Cemetery near WalPole. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Irvin was born on May 19, 1965, the son of Donald and Beulah Irvin.

He was an attorney, serving as the Hamilton County states attorney from 2004 until his death. He was a solo attorney of Irvin Law Offices in Vandalia from 1997-2004; Fayette Countys states attorney from 1992-96; and an associate in the law firm of Corbell & Miller in Vandalia from 1990-92. He was involved in his community as a member of the Hamilton Memorial Foundation Board, Dale Convention Center Board, Ruritain Club and Summer League Committee, and was a volunteer team captain for the Jerry and Bobbye Sloan Hand-in-Hand Foundation. He was also involved in coaching youth basketball, baseball and softball. He attended First General Baptist Church with his wife and children.

He is survived by his parents; wife, Terrie Ellis Ervin; children, Adam, Faith and Erin Irvin, at home; brothers, Tom Irvin of McLeansboro and Brad Irvin of Dale; sister, Ronda Irvin Hamilton of Trenton, Ga.; nieces, Jaden Irvin, Rachael Nice, Cassidy Sullivan, Carly Sullivan, Celeste Ellis and Aubrey Stover; and nephews, Kevin Irvin, Koltyn Irvin, Michael Nice, Justin Stover, Ian Stover and Noah Hamilton.
