Keith Rogers, 75, of Vernon, Texas, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at his home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Vernon, with the Rev. Oren Key officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Holy Family Children Playground Fund.
Mr. Rogers was the son of Joe and Ruth Lucille Henson Rogers. He married Betty Fruala in March 1951 in Vandalia; she died in January 1960. He married Sharon L. Vacca on Oct. 22, 1960; she died on April 3, 1994.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator in Illinois, dredging the Illinois River, and he built the Maple Garden Apartment Complex and sold it before moving to California. In California, he owned a Magic Fingers franchise in San Diego and the Apple Valley Mobile Home Park. He moved to Vernon in 1975 and was the owner and operator of Best Western Village Inn and Green Tree Motel there. He served in the Army as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He traveled all over the United States and to Mexico and England.
He is survived by daughters, Barbara Whalen of Keller, Texas, Rhonda Miller of Arlington, Texas, and Connie Lee Mauk of Grand Prairie, Texas; son, Joe Rogers of Vernon, Texas; sister, Melba Cornish of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; brothers, Bill and Jack Rogers; and sister, Lucille Calvert.
