Carl Stokes, 66, of rural Vandalia, died at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at his residence.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with Leverne Bell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, rural Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice.
Mr. Stokes was born on May 23, 1942, in Nokomis, the son of Johnny and Lucille Huber Stokes. He married Alice Gibson on June 28, 1961, in Montgomery County.
He was a logger in the timber business, and a member of the American Coon Hunters’ Association.
He is survived by son, Brett Stokes of Ohlman, Bart Stokes of Ramsey, Tree Stokes of Ramsey, Doc Stokes of Ramsey, Duke Stokes of Nashville, Tenn., and Stevie Stokes of Effingham; daughter, Carla Hicks of Brownstown; mother, of Ramsey; brothers, Pudge Stokes and Johnny Ray Stokes, both of Ramsey; sisters, Judy Faye Hughs and Doreen Stokes, both of Ramsey; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Nancy; and a brother, Clyde.
