Nominations for this year’s class of the Vandalia Community High School Athletic Hall of Fame are due by July 31. Forms should be sent to Brian Kern, VCHS Athletic Director, 1109 N. 8th St., Vandalia, IL, 62471. Forms are available at the high school office and may also be dropped off there.
In order to be nominated, the following qualifications must be met:
The candidate must be a graduate of Vandalia Community High School, a distinguished varsity team, a former coach or a supportive fan.
The candidate must have graduated from, completed coaching at, or been a supportive fan no less than five years prior to nomination.
The credentials of candidates nominated may be based on administrative as well as physical achievements, provided such honors are on the field of athletics.
An individual meeting the qualifications listed above may be nominated by anyone. Nominations of candidates for entry into the Hall of Fame shall be considered for a period of three years. Nominees not selected within the period of three years from nomination must be re-nominated to be considered.
The selection committee will meet on Thursday, Aug. 2, at noon in the high school cafeteria to begin the selection process.
Last year, Arthur Langston, Sarah Roberts, Alberta Wooten, John Campbell and the 2001-02 wrestling team were inducted.
The VCHS Hall of Fame was started in 1994 to recognize and honor those individuals and teams who – by their athletic endeavors, exploits and attainments – command respect and admiration for themselves, Vandalia High School and the entire Vandalia community.
