After hearing numerous complaints from local residents, CSX Railroad plans to rehabilitate the Remann Street crossing.
However, the crossing will not be improved to the level desired by city officials, and CSX apparently doesnt plan to make improvements to other crossings in town.
Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman announced at a city council committee meeting on Tuesday afternoon that a company official told him that CSX will close the Remann Street crossing for two-three months to repair the crossing.
Gottman said that when he asked whether the company would use concrete to improve the crossing, the CSX official said the company no longer uses that method for crossings, and that asphalt would be used for the repairs.
Gottman also said that when he asked about company plans to improve the crossings at Fifth, Sixth and Eighth streets, the CSX official said that repairs for those crossings are slated for next year.
