Mary Tompkins, 78, of Vandalia, died at 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery, Hagarstown. Visitation will be held an hour before services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Donors choice.
Mrs. Tompkins was born on March 25, 1930, in Herrick, the daughter of Roy and Ethel Beck Holman. She married James D. Tompkins on Jan. 3, 1949, in Corinth, Miss.; he died on June 21, 1988.
She was a homemaker and a member of Overcup Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons, Danny Tompkins and his wife Debbie of Lower Lake, Calif., and David and his wife Callie Tompkins of Farmington, N.M.; grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Jack Putnam, and Megan Graham; brothers, Jim Holman and his wife Darlene of Vandalia, and Mike Holman of Vandalia; sisters, Bessie and her husband Dwight Hagy of Vandalia, Lila Bone of Vandalia, Norma and her husband Donald Willis of Vandalia, Carol and her husband Tommy Metzger of Alton, Mo., Patti and her husband Jim Koonce of Decatur, and Linda and her husband Tiff Rickman of Vandalia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Franklin Holman; and sister, Helen Nevinger.
