Lora L. Manuel, 91, Altamont

Lora L. Manuel, 91, of Altamont and formerly of Effingham, died at 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont after an extended illness.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Lutheran Care Center chapel in Altamont, with the Rev. Theodore Gall officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be held from noon until time of services at the chapel. Kull Funeral Home in Altamont was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Lutheran Care Center, 702 W. Cumberland Road in Altamont or donors choice.

Mrs. Manuel was born on Jan. 3, 1917, in the Blue Point community, Moccasin Township, Effingham County, the daughter of Erwin Heinrich Louis and Hulda Pauline Bertha Burrow Ziegler. She married Clifford Robert Manuel in 1935; he died on Sept. 18, 1974.

She was baptized at St. Paul Blue Point Lutheran Church on Jan. 21, 1917, and was confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Effingham on April 30, 1930. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church for 60 years. She mostly enjoyed visiting her children and family.

She is survived by sons, Darwin Manuel and his wife Betty of Brea, Calif., and Dean Manuel and his wife Karen of Altamont; daughter, Debbie and her husband Steve Perry of Kohler, Wisc.; grandchildren, Denise and her husband Larry McGee, Dawn and her husband Ken Rinker, David Manuel and his wife Lea, DeAnne and her husband Sean Yallaly, Nathan Perry and Stephanie Perry; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Victor Ziegler of Altamont, and Arlon Ziegler and his wife Dorine of Long Beach, Calif.; sisters, Verna Zimmermann of Springfield, Rosella Frank of Richardson, Texas, and Gertrude Trudy Graves of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Elmer Ziegler and his wife Madave; sisters, Julia and her husband Pete Peterson, Lillian and her husband Elwood Tolch, and Corrine and her husband Harmon Beams; brothers-in-law, Edward Zimmermann, Charles Frank and Garold Graves; and sister-in-law, Nell Ziegler.
