John T. Steiner, 85, of Mulberry Grove, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Greenville, with the Rev. Victor Kaltenbach officiating. Burial was in Maxey Cemetery in Smithboro, with military rites accorded by Mulberry Grove American Legion Post No. 1180. Visitation was held Friday evening at Young Funeral Home in Mulberry Grove. Memorials: St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
Mr. Steiner was born on Sept. 9, 1922, in Mulberry Grove, the son of Albert and Clara C. Stier Steiner. He married Rose Stone on Aug. 8, 1992.
He grew up in Mulberry Grove. He served in the Army during World War II in the 728 Operating Battalion. After the service, he went to work for Complete Auto Transit as a truck driver, working there until his retirement. He also farmed and enjoyed livestock. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5694 in Highland, American Legion Post No. 1180 in Mulberry Grove and St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John T. Steiner Jr.; a stepgrandson; and three brothers, Henry, Charles and Edward Steiner.
