Robert D. Black Sr., 77, Bethany

Robert Dale ‘Bob’ Black Sr., 77, of Bethany and formerly of Decatur and Vandalia, died at 1:45 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2008, at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with the Rev. Timothy L. Moon officiating. Friends and family may gather at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: American Heart Association or American Lung Association.

Mr. Black was born on Aug. 19, 1930, in Vandalia, the son of Earney J. Sr. and Grace Ann Cearlock Black. He married Wilma D. Wagoner on June 30, 1951, at Ft. Hood, Texas.

He was retired as the 23-year manager of the planning department at Caterpillar. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife; son, Robert Black Jr. of Oshkosh, Wisc.; daughters, Cynthia and her husband Dick Harding of Decatur, and Malinda and her husband Steve Dicken of Findlay; a brother; three sisters; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, four brothers and four sisters.
