Robert L. Bob McKean, 46, of Altamont and formerly of Vandalia, died at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in rural Altamont.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont, with the Rev. Donald Klepzig officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before services on Friday, both at the church. Memorials: An education fund for his grandchildren or donors choice.
Mr. McKean was born on Nov. 16, 1961, in Vandalia, the son of Robert M. and Carole R. Brackenhoff McKean. He married Mary A. Beaulieu Brown on March 7, 1998.
He was employed as a correctional officer at Vandalia Correctional Center, and had been employed with the Illinois Department of Corrections for 19 years. He was affiliated with the Lutheran Church and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, four-wheeler riding and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; stepson, Eric Brown and his wife LaKrisha of Altamont; brothers, Michael L. McKean and his wife Gaye of Columbia, Mo., Dennis L. McKean of Watson, and Russell L. McKean and his wife Liliana of Houston, Texas; sister, Nancy L. and her husband Wayne Tate of Greencastle, Ind.; parents, of Altamont; grandchildren, Ashley P. Brown, Nathaniel J. Brown and Zachary M. Brown; nieces and nephews, C.W. and Tiffany Tate, Katherine and Laura McKean, and Victoria and Erica McKean; great-niece, Rebecca Tate; and Buck, Dakota and Ozzy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
