Billy Dean Tharp, 55, of St. Elmo, died on Monday, April 21, 2008, at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Tharp was born on Feb. 11, 1953, in Wichita, Kan., the son of William A. and Betty Louise Munkres Lane. He married Sue Ellen Sherraden Clark on Feb. 16, 2008, in St. Elmo.
He was reared in Kansas and previously lived in Akron, Colo. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of sergeant. He was employed for 19 years as an operations specialist for Kinder-Morgan at the Natural Gas Pipeline north of St. Elmo. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Harley Owners Group, Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the International Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers.
He is survived by his wife; mother, of Derby, Kan.; stepsons, Brian Clark of Albion, and Joseph Clark and his wife Jennifer of Toledo, Ohio; stepgrandsons, Jonathan and Jeremiah Clark; sisters, Florence Tharp and Rita Branch, both of Wichita, Kan., and Karla and her husband Eldon Guthrey of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Richard Tharp and his wife Cathy of Akron, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
