Maurice ‘Maurie’ G. Walker, 70, of Fillmore, died at 8:23 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Fillmore Baptist Church in Fillmore, with the Revs. Houston Jackson and Mike McKinney officiating. Burial with military rites was in Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore. Miller Funeral Home in Fillmore was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Activity fund at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or Baptist Children’s Home in Carmi.
Mr. Walker was born on Sept. 1, 1937, in Mulberry Grove, the son of Maurice Walker and Lila Mason Shipley. He married Marcia D. Merriman Arndt on Nov. 2, 1997, in Fillmore.
He was a former water and sewer superintendent for the village of Fillmore, and a member of Fillmore Baptist Church. He graduated from Mulberry Grove High School in 1955, and he served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-67.
He is survived by his wife; son, Robert Walker and his wife Lisa of Greenville; daughters, Shelley and her husband Harold Douglas of Gillespie, Delilah Walker of Bulacan, Phillipines, and Lauri Nance of Portsmouth, Va.; stepsons, Donald Arndt Jr. and his wife Julia of Louisville, Ky., and Stefan Arndt and his wife Jodi of St. Louis, Mo.; stepdaughter, Daneta and her husband Adam Sims of Denton, Texas; mother and stepfather, Lila and her husband Lloyed Shipley of Hillsboro; foster brother, Joe Baugh of Fillmore; foster sister, Jess and her husband Bob Ward of Vandalia; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
