Edna S. Goers, 92, Altamont

Edna S. Goers, 92, of Altamont, died at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Altamont, with the Rev. Clayton G. Vail officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont and an hour before services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials: Lutheran Care Center, Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church or donors choice.

Mrs. Goers was born on Sept. 15, 1915, on the family farm in West Township, near the Bethlehem community in Effingham County, the daughter of August and Agnes Voelker-Mercier. She married Eric Walter Goers on Aug. 4, 1935, in Effingham; he died on Jan. 11, 1998.

She was a farm wife who was a life member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society at the church and of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League. She was also active in the Effingham County Farm Bureau Home Extension. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and gardening, and had enjoyed bowling in her earlier years.

She is survived by sons, Richard Goers and his wife Sharon of Decatur, Eugene Eric Goers of Altamont, and Larry Goers and his wife Sharon of Altamont; sister, Delia Ann Wenthe of Effingham; sister-in-law, Minnie Maria Mercier of Altamont; three grandsons; five granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Arthur and his wife Bertha Berg-Mercier, Louis and his wife Minnie Heiden-Mercier, William and his wife Alma Kirchhoff-Mercier, Arnold J. Mercier, and Walter and his wife Anna Kruger-Mercier; sister, Olga and her husband Tony Wenthe; and brother-in-law, Emil F. Wenthe.
