Ralph A. Luckert, 85, Altamont, died at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Services and inurnment will be at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo. Kessel Funeral Home in St. Elmo was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: The Healing Garden at St. Anthonys Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Mr. Luckert was born on Oct. 13, 1922, the son of Clarence and Alice Deacon Luckert. He married Janice Jan M. Rhodes on Oct. 13, 1989, in St. Louis, Mo.
He was a supply and acquisitions manager for the federal government for many years, retiring in 1977. He served in the Army during World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant. He served in the infantry in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge, and received a Purple Heart for his valor. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Cullen Luckert of St. Charles, Mo., and David Luckert and his wife Judy of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert and Marvin Luckert.
