Mary Catherine Thompson Siebken, 83, of Milford, Neb., and formerly of Vandalia, died on Friday, March 21, 2008, at Seward Memorial Hospital in Seward, Neb., after being in failing health for several months.
Private graveside services will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at Hollst Lawn Cemetery in Yutan, Neb. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Yutan, Neb., with the Rev. Michael Kurd officiating. Memorials: Abraham Thompson Reunion Fund, care of Carolyn Thompson, 145 S. Eighth St., Vandalia. Monies collected will be used for maintenance of the Thompson family cemetery and to plant a tree in a cemetery near the Thompson homestead.
Mrs. Siebken was born on June 22, 1924, in rural Vandalia, the daughter of John Walter and Murriel Sturmer Thompson. Following her mothers death in 1935, she and her sister, Hilda, lived with their grandmother, Mrs. Florence Sturmer.
She married Reese H. Jones in Illinois; they later divorced. She married Bernard C. Siebken at Great Lakes Naval Base in Northern Illinois; he died on April 20, 1993.
She attended school in Vandalia. As a fifth generation of Thompsons born in Fayette County, she was a staunch supporter of Thompson family reunion activities in Vandalia on Fathers Day weekend and was very interested in the genealogy of her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Richards of Omaha, Neb.; sons, F. Keith Siebken of Milford, Neb., and Harold D. Jones of Pleasant Hill; stepson, Richard A. Siebken; half sister, Mrs. Juanitia Faulkner of Springfield; and grandchildren, Michael J. Richards, Nicholas Siebken, April Siebken, Marcus Siebken, Rick Siebken, Jennifer Jones and Jon Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Denmon and Leslie; and sisters, Laura, Nada Mae and Hilda Engle.
