Wiley H Galloway, 94, of Altamont, died at 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Altamont Christian Church, with Shannon Bopp and Jim Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Altamont, with military rites accorded by Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7676 of Altamont. Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Lutheran Care Center, Altamont Living Museum, Altamont Christian Church or donor’s choice.
Mr. Galloway was born on Dec. 2, 1913, in Headyville, the son of William Madison and Mary Elsie Kepley Galloway. He married Marion Louise Brooks on June 20, 1935; she died on Feb. 20, 1993. He then married Imogene Wyatt on April 11, 1999.
He was a barber most of his life, beginning his career in 1940 in Altamont. He was a charter member of Altamont Christian Church, member of Gieseking Schwerdtfeger VFW Post No. 7676 and past member of the Altamont Chamber of Commerce. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Shirley and her husband Robert Harder of Altamont, and Susanne Galloway of Altamont; brother, Jesse Curtis Galloway and his wife Genie of Woodstock; sister, Louise Hansen of Mendota; sisters-in-law, Lois Gallaway of Effingham, Violet Galloway of Newton and Doris Galloway of Olney; grandchildren, Rob Harder and his wife Caroline, and Kara and her husband, Jeff Miller, both of Altamont, and Sara and her husband Dustin Jansen of Effingham; and great-grandsons, Madison Fritscher and Robert Harder III, both of Altamont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; sons, Donald Eugene Galloway and Monte H Galloway; brothers, Lindsey, Walter, Charles and Dale Galloway; and sisters, Sybil Martens, Emily Sturtevant and Norma Jean Puckett.
