ROGER ALLEN SMART

ROGER ALLEN SMART, 74, OF HERRICK, ILLINOIS PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY SURROUNDED BY HIS FAMILY AT 10:05 P.M. FRIDAY, MARCH 7 IN HIS HOME.

ROGER WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 24, 1933 IN RURAL HERRICK, ILLINOIS THE SON OF ALLEN AND BERTHA HINTON SMART. HE MARRIED CAROL L HAYES OCTOBER 4, 1952 IN HERRICK BAPTIST CHURCH BY CAROLS GRANDFATHER L M HAYES.

ROGER WAS A VETERAN UNITED STATES ARMY, SERVING DURING THE KOREAN WAR FROM 1953 THROUGH 1955. HE WAS A LIFELONG FARMER AND RETIRED DAIRY FARMER. HE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN HIS COMMUNITY SERVING ON NUMEROUS BOARDS AND ORGANIZATIONS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE EASTERN ILLINOIS LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION, AMERICAN LEGION SARVER-GUTHRIE POST 839 HERRICK, AND CELEBRATION COMMUNITY CHURCH. HE SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF MYERS CEMETERY, HERRICK COMMUNITY CENTER COMMITTEE, AND THE HERRICK AND COWDEN-HERRICK SCHOOL BOARDS. ROGER COULD BE FOUND AUCTIONING AT LOCAL AUCTIONS AND AREA BENEFITS. HE WAS A REAL ESTATE SALESMAN FOR MANY YEARS AND WAS ALSO THE ANNOUNCER AT THE HERRICK 4TH OF JULY PARADE.

ROGER WAS A BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, GREAT-GRANDFATHER AND FRIEND, AND WILL BE MISSED BY EVERYONE WHO KNEW HIM. HE ALWAYS PUT GOD AND HIS FAMILY ABOVE ALL HIS NEEDS.

SURVIVING ARE HIS LOVING WIFE OF 55 YEARS, CAROL; TWO DAUGHTERS, DEBBIE (HUSBAND, LEROY) ALBRIGHT OF HERRICK AND JUDY STITH OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI; THREE GRANDDAUGHTERS, SHANTA (HUSBAND, STEVE) WILL OF EFFINGHAM, KENDRA (HUSBAND JERAD) LORTON OF RAMSEY, AND CAMILLA (HUSBAND, WESTON) WILHOUR OF BEECHER CITY; SIX GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN DYLAN, ELIZABETH, AND ALLISON WILL, ABIGAIL AND ANDREW LORTON, AND JAIDE WILHOUR; ONE SISTER, LOUISE (HUSBAND, BOB) HESS OF OKMULGEE, OKLAHOMA; MANY NIECES, NEPHEWS AND COUSINS.

HE WAS PROCEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M. TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 2008, AT THE CELEBRATION COMMUNITY CHURCH IN PANA, ILLINOIS ON SOUTH ROUTE 51, WITH REV. TERRY WALTERS OFFICIATING. VISITATION WILL BE FROM 4-8 P.M. MONDAY, MARCH 10, AT THE HERRICK COMMUNITY BUILDING. BURIAL WILL BE IN THE MYERS CEMETERY IN HERRICK. THE FAMILY IS BEING ASSISTED BY THE WALLACE-CARROLL FUNERAL HOME IN HERRICK. MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO LINCOLNLAND HOME CARE AND HOSPICE OF SARAH BUSH LINCOLN HEALTH SYSTEM, THE BUILDING FUND OF CELEBRATION COMMUNITY CHURCH OR DONORS CHOICE.
