Nelson L. Holbrook, 75, of Ramsey, died at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Springfield Hospice in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ramsey, with the Rev. Delix Michel officiating. Burial with military rites will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with a rosary at 5 p.m. Memorials: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Fayette County Health Department-Home Health Care and American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Holbrook was born on Aug. 19, 1932, in Fayette County, the son of Henry W. and Katherine Cecelia Bergin Holbrook. He married Beverly Ann Jackson on Oct. 13, 1956, in Vandalia; she died on April 11, 1984.
He was a farmer, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ramsey, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia, Vandalia Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus and Fayette County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by a son, Darrel Holbrook of Vandalia; daughters, Stacia Holbrook of Ramsey, and Kelsey and her husband Tim Bost of Vandalia; sister, Margaret and her husband Don Slater of Ramsey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
