Richard Scribner, 66, Ramsey

Richard Scribner, 66, of Ramsey, died at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Vandalia, with Pastor Joe Mollet officiating. Burial will be in Bilyeu Cemetery in Moweaqua, with graveside military rites by VFW/American Legion/AmVets Honor Guard, Pana.. Visitation will be held an hour before services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: To the family.

Mr. Scribner was born on Feb. 2, 1942, in Bloomfield, the son of Clemmie M. and Lucille Scribner. He married Nancy Newsome on Aug. 21, 1966.

He grew up in the Nokomis area, and attended Audubon Township Grade School and Nokomis High School. He was employed for a number of years by the state of Illinois as a guard and field foreman at Vandalia Correctional Center. He retired from Brighten Painting in 2002. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He loved nature, hunted and fished with his friends and family, and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Jeffery Scribner of Ramsey, and Robert Scribner and his wife Fawn of rural Ramsey; daughter, Jennifer and Joe Schilling of rural Brownstown; mother, of Assumption; grandchildren, Julie, Jill, Josh and Jenny Schilling, William Scribner, and Faith and Spencer Wallace; siblings, Jane and her husband Weldon Stetter of Cantrall, Clemmie Scribner Jr. of Oconee, Bonnie and her husband Dave Books of Springfield, Sue and her husband Bill Koons of Pana, Larry Scribner and his wife Hahn of Austin, Texas, Jerry Scribner and his wife Krissie of Vista, Calif., and Kathy and her husband Linh Pham of Austin, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents; father, on Sept. 27, 1988; and sister, Patricia Ann, who died in infancy.
