Carol J. Fenton, 73, of Vandalia, died at 1 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the family residence.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. James Fackler officiating. Burial will be in Mulberry Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice.
Mrs. Fenton was born on Sept. 5, 1934, in Vandalia, the daughter of Paul and Faye Ireland Kistler. She married Emmett Eugene Fenton on July 27, 1973, in East St. Louis; he died on April 24, 2001.
She was a retired cook for the Fayette County Sheriffs Office, and a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vandalia, Ladies of the Moose in Vandalia and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary at Old Capitol Post No. 3862.
She is survived by sons, Michael and his wife Vanessa Wasmuth of St. Peter, and Gene E. Fenton of Vandalia; daughters, Susan and her husband Max Reuscher of Vandalia, and Lori and her husband Bill Cowger of Vandalia; sisters, Joann Corry of Vandalia, Sue and her husband Larry Keyes of Brownstown, Paula and her husband Darrel Newlin of Glen Ellyn, and Betty Schaal of Decatur; and grandchildren, Douglas Wasmuth, Carol Ann Reuscher, Daniel Reuscher, Will Cowger, Wade Cowger, Brooke Fenton, Eli Fenton and Jake Fenton.
She as preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Joe, Wayne and Bob Kistler; and a daughter.
