Earl Edward Reeter, 78, of Decatur, died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Feb. 11, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday in Farina Cemetery in Farina. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: Bob Dondeville’s Veterans’ Memorial, c/o Soy Capital Bank.
Mr. Reeter was born on March 1, 1929, in Palmer, the son of Elias E. and Leathe Jacobs Reeter. He married J. Carolee Dippold on April 22, 1956.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a self-taught draftsman who began his work career with Homer L. Chastain Associates. He went on to work for General Electric Co. and then to own and operate his own business, Automatic Appliance Service. He also had worked in the hardware department for Sears. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed being a woodworker and gardening.
He is survived by his wife; children, Vicki and her husband Gary Jackson of Long Creek, Tim Reeter and his wife Trish of Mt. Zion, Cathy and her husband Keith Brown of Dalton City, and Denise and her husband John ‘Wes’ of Decatur; brother, Wayne Reeter of Saucier, Miss.; sister, Mary Reid of Eldersburg, Md.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
