Doris Gehle, 79, of St. Peter, died at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Evergreen Nursing Center in Effingham.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with the Rev. Bill Emrick officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Pagel Funeral Home on Tuesday and an hour before services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials: Church organ fund.
Mrs. Gehle was born on July 16, 1928, in Vandalia, the daughter of Leonard and Dorothy Brown Forbes. She married Norman E. Gehle on April 6, 1958, at First Christian Church in Vandalia.
She was a homemaker, a past member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier and a current member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter. She had been a pianist and organist at both churches.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Bradley Gehle and Brian Gehle, both of St. Peter; sister, Dorothy and her husband Eldon Torbeck of Urbana; stepbrother, Carroll Dugan of Vandalia; and stepsister-in-law, Tessie Dugan of Vandalia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Ethel Dugan Forbes; stepbrother, Eldon Dugan; and stepsister-in-law, Sue Dugan.
