Grace M. Nowlin, 82, Greenville, died at 5:46 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at Greenville Regional Hospital.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville, with John Heston officiating. Burial was in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation was held for two hours prior to services. Memorials: Bond Christian Service Camp of Loyal U & I Sunday school class.

Mrs. Nowlin was born on Nov. 29, 1925, in Warrensburg, the daughter of Elmer Ellsworth and Ellen Elizabeth Senteney Mosbarger. She married Merle Nowlin in August 1947 at Uncle Cloyds in Monticello; he died on July 4, 1964.

She grew up in Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1943. She graduated from Decatur Macon County Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for St. Josephs Hospital in Highland, and started at Utlaut Memorial Hospital in Greenville the day before it opened. She was a night supervisor for many years before her retirement in 1990. In retirement, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She was formerly a member of the Bond County Home Bureau, a nurses club and Greenville First Christian Church.

She is survived by children, Edward P. Nowlin and his wife Nancy of Greenville, Janet E. and her husband Andy Tift of Greenville, and Lois E. and her husband Michael McCart of Vandalia; grandchildren, Wesley Tift, Amanda Morelli and Veronica Forbis; great-grandchildren, Lesley Tift and Justin Tift; brother, Roger Mosbarger and his wife Maria of Martinez, Ga., and sister, Ruth Chaney of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Mary Curtis.
