Evelyn V. Ergle, 79, of Mulberry Grove, died at 11:35 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Rush officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Mulberry Grove. Memorials: Arthritis Foundation or donors choice.
Mrs. Ergle was born on Oct. 21, 1928, in Shafter Township, Fayette County, the daughter of Kenneth Loren and Blenna Marie Borror Landers. She married Robert Lester Powell on Oct. 18, 1947, in Jennings, Mo. She married Thomas Richard Ergle on Aug. 17, 1967, in Palatka, Fla.
She was reared on the family farm near Mulberry Grove and attended one-room schools in the neighborhood. She attended Mulberry Grove High School and Chicago High School. She was reared in the Baptist Church.
Her family lived in Vandalia, and she graduated from Centralia Beauty College. She worked as a beauty operator in Vandalia before moving to Florida, where she worked at Cut and Curl, and later owned Town & Country Beauty Shop. She returned in 1980 to Mulberry Grove, where she worked several places, the last being Mulberry Grove Village Hall as a part-time secretary.
She is survived by a daughters, Karen and her husband Steve Bray of Ocala, Fla., and Michelle and her husband Chris Wehrle of Mulberry Grove; grandchildren, Laurie Ryan, Robby Bray, Mike Bray and J.B. Wehrle; great-granddaughters, Maggie, Keira, Madison, Abigail, Ella and Emily; and brother, Keith Landers and his wife Carol of Coffeen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Larry Powell, who died in infancy.
