William B. ‘Willie’ Olmstead, 86, of Urbana and formerly of Vernon, died at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, the family residence.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial will be in Farmers Cemetery in Shobonier, with military rites accorded graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Mr. Olmstead was born on Sept. 19, 1921, in Vernon, the son of Wordie and Ella Wilkie Olmstead. He married Inge Doberauer on Dec. 4, 1986, in Urbana.
He worked as a conductor for Illinois Central Railroad, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Transportation Union.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Quentin Olmstead and his wife Polly of Urbana, Glen Olmstead and his wife Pam of Vandalia and Kevin Olmstead and his wife Cathy Olmstead of Brownstown; grandchildren, Tracy, Vance, Cody, Gracie, Dalton and Cameron; and great-grandchildren, Russell, Austin, Angelo, Kaylee, Autumn and Alyiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeRoy, Elvin, Jessie and Louis; and sisters, Ada Bryant, Mamie McNealy and Mary DeLong.
