Billy B. Fravala, 75, of Springfield and formerly of Vandalia, died at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, with the Rev. Juli Guy officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Fravala was born on July 21, 1932, in Vandalia, the son of W.B. and Mary Madeline Jones Fravala. He married Doris M. McCoy on Nov. 5, 1991; she died on June 29, 2001.
He was a general contractor in Richland, Wash., before returning to Springfield in 1982. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 755, American Legion. He was a former member of the Interveterans Burial Detail, in the First Calvary Division. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949-54. After serving a tour in Korea, he was reassigned to General MacArthurs headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
He is survived by daughters, Anita and her husband Jim Griffin of Quincy, Wash., and Juanita Fravala of California; brother, Tommy Rex Fravala of Bowling Green, Ky.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Terri Merrell of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and one brother.
