Robert E. Koons, 82, of Clinton, died on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Dr. John Warner Hospital in Clinton.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at First Christian Church in Clinton, with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Visitation with Masonic Rites was held on Monday evening at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton. Memorials: Clinton Fire Department, Little Galilee Christian Assembly or Dr. John Warner Hospital.
Mr. Koons was born on June 9, 1925, in Clinton, the son of Otto and Zelma Woodward Koons. He married Nellie Mae Crawford on June 16, 1946, in Clinton.
He was president of Triple K Construction Co. in Clinton, and was a 56-year member of the Clinton Fire Department. He was a Golden Eagle, and a member of DeWitt Mason Lodge No. 84 A.F. & A.M., Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 197 of Bloomington, Clinton Council, Clinton Commandry, Bloomington Consistry, Ansar Shrine and White Shrine.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Karen Welch and her husband Roy Peddycoart of Clinton; sons, Robert Keith and his wife Kayla Koons of Clinton, and Kenneth Lee Koons of Clinton; grandchildren, Gary and his wife Nikki Welch of Clinton, Christopher Welch of Gulf Port, Miss., Kari Ann and her husband Jason Huffman of Herrin, Zackary Koons of Clinton, Jennifer Koons of Bloomington, Jessica and her husband Mark McCleary of Carlsbad, Calif., and Kyle Koons of Clinton; stepgrandchildren, Rachel Mohr of Forsyth and Jacob Taylor of Maroa; sister, Lona Donahower of Arlington, Texas; brother-in-law, Wester Halterbaum of Plano, Texas; and one great-grandchild.
