Eva Jean Tate, 94, of Vandalia and formerly of Fillmore, died at 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in Myers Cemetery, rural Herrick, with the Rev. David Keyes officiating. Friends and family may gather at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Families That Care at Fayette County Hospital LTC.
Mrs. Tate was born on June 7, 1913, in Herrick, the daughter of William and Tina Buck Brown. She married Layman Jolly Tate on Aug. 15, 1931, in Fillmore; he died on April 5, 1977.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fillmore Baptist Church in Fillmore.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley and her husband Tim Batzli of Carriere, Miss., daughter-in-law, Eula V. Tate of Vandalia; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Monte, who died on Aug. 5, 2005; a brother; two sisters; and a grandson.
