Raymond Paul Alwardt, 89, of Altamont, died at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at St. Anthonys Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Services will be held at 1 a.m. on Thursday at St. Paul Blue Point Lutheran Church in rural Altamont, with the Rev. David Speers officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Blue Point Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont and one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Mr. Alwardt wa born on March 2, 1918, in rural Altamont, the con of Paul and Sophia Lorenz Alwardt. He married Elinor Wendling on April 28, 1945.
He had been been a farmer in the Blue Point community for many years, and was a member of St. Paul Blue Point Lutheran Church in rural Altamont. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Italy and Africa.
He is survived by his wife; son, Linden Alwardt of Altamont; daughter-in-law, Karen Dall of Carlyle; and grandchildren, Valerie and her husband Jeff Fortner of Maryville, Michael Alwardt of Lansing, and Dr. Cory Alwardt of Phoenix, Ariz.; and great-granddaughter, Lauren Fortner of Maryville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Loren; and sisters, Margaret and Ruth.
