Nina L. Ray, 73, Vandalia

Nina L. Ray, 73, died at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Vandalia Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Vandalia.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Roberta Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials: Activity department of Friendship Manor Nursing Home in St. Elmo.

Mrs. Ray was born on Oct. 9, 1934, in Vandalia, the daughter of Thomas and Cora Richards Jarrett. She married Morris D. Ray on July 6, 1949, in Vandalia; he died on April 24, 1999.

She was co-owner and secretary of Rays Excavating & Sales in Vandalia. She was a member of Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia; Ladies of the Moose, Lodge 1447, in Vandalia; and Crawford-Hale American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 95; former Girl Scout leader and member of Optimist International of Vandalia; and was First Lady of Vandalias 175th Celebration in 1994.

She is survived by son, David and his wife Vera Ray of Vandalia; daughters, Judy and her husband Larry Nalley of Vandalia, and Karen and her husband Jim Franklin of Ramsey; sister, Romalee Engle of Brownstown; brother, Richard Jarrett of Marion; grandchildren, Tim Franklin, Kris and his wife Brooke Franklin, Ben Ray, Jeff and his wife Brittney Ray, and Lisa and her husband Doug Jones; great-grandsons, Dalton Ray, Conner and Parker Ray, and Johnathan, Matthew and Nicholas Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Thomas E. Jarrett.
