Anna Lou Bumber, 85, of Vandalia, died at 3:12 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Dan Rush officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. No visitation was held. Memorials: To the family.
Mrs. Bumber was born on Sept. 1, 1922, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence and Jenny Lee McIntire Hodges. She married Thomas Edward Bumber on May 31, 1941, in Joliet; he died on March 17, 1989.
She was a homemaker and a teachers aide. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, an AWANA Club leader, and she enjoyed reading, crocheting, writing and sewing.
She is survived by daughters, Sally and her husband William Haller of Brownstown, Marjorie and her husband Dennis Neer of Joliet, and Barbara and her husband Mary Evans of Vandalia; son, Paul and his wife Dorothy Bumber of White Fish, Ore.; brothers, Robert Hodges of Lockport and Corky Hodges of Akron, Ohio; sister, Lucille Brombarett of Lamont; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Thomas Edward Jr.; four brothers; and two sisters.
