Ruby Doolen, 84, of Vernon, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in an auto accident in rural Vernon.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Day Funeral Home in Patoka, with the Rev. David Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Branch Cemetery, rural Alma. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday and from 8:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Patoka Fire Department or Arthritis Foundation.
Mrs. Doolen was born on Jan. 22, 1923, in Patoka Township, the daughter of Robert and Susan Irene Oats Ballance. She married L. Ryman Doolen on March 10, 1951, in Vernon; he died on March 5, 1984.
She lived all of her life in the Vernon area, working at Crane Packing until her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed cooking, visiting with friends, reading and, most of all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by a son, Rodney and his wife Wanda Doolen of Patterson, Mo.; brothers, Lyle and his wife Mary Ballance, and Glen and his wife Mary Louise Ballance, both of Vandalia, and Ross and his wife Billie Ballance of Vernon; and grandchildren, Chad and Kendy Doolen, both of Patterson, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
