    With a number of its wrestlers competing at the varsity level for the first time, Vandalia used five pins to open its season with a win on Tuesday.

  • SEB, SC, Patoka win at MG tourney

    St. Elmo/Brownstown, South Central and Patoka all opened play in the Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament with wins on Monday night.
    St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Mt. Olive, 62-61, after being behind for much of the game.
    SEB led 17-11 after one quarter, but Mt. Olive held a 20-7 edge in the second quarter to lead 31-24 at the half. The Eagles narrowed the gap with a 15-11 edge in the third quarter, then posted the win by outscoring Mt. Olive, 23-19, in the final quarter.

  • BSE bombs Shelbyville, now at 1-1

    Claire Wilhour knocked down seven two-point baskets and two three-pointers last Thursday as Brownstown/St. Elmo evened its record at 1-1 with a 49-24 win over Shelbyville.
    The Lady Bombers led 9-2 after one quarter, with Wilhour scoring seven of those points.
    They extended their lead to 23-6 after two quarters as Wilhour and Natalie Oberlink each hit a three and Deana Shelton added a couple of two-pointers.
    Shelbyville held a slim 14-13 edge in the third quarter, but BSE rebounded by outscoring their opponents 13-4 in the final quarter.

  • VJHS eighth-graders win big over...

    The Vandalia Junior High School eighth-graders continued their winning ways last Tuesday with a 44-8 win over Altamont.

  • St. Elmo top seed at its tourney

    The host team has been given the top seed and will play in the first game of the 57th annual St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.
    The seeds for the tournament, which runs from Dec. 13-17, are as follows:
    #1 – St. Elmo  
    #2 – Cumberland
    #3 – Vandalia
    #4 – Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City
    #5 – Mulberry Grove
    #6 – South Central
    #7 – Ramsey  
    #8 – Clay City

  • Cade signs for track at McKendree

    For the second time in two weeks, a track athlete has signed a letter of intent to continue at the college level.

  • Junior High

    Vandalia Junior High’s eighth-grade boys defeated Hillsboro, 47-27, last Tuesday.
    The Junior Vandals lead 8-6 after one quarter and 20-13 after two quarters. They held at 19-7 edge in the third quarter and 8-7 edge in the fourth to take the win.
    Markus Isaiah led the eighth-graders with 15 points, and Drew Thompson added 10 points. Other scorers –Tarkington 8, Casey 4, Goldsmith 4, Smith 2, Marquardt 2, Sasse 2.

    Vandalia’s eighth-grade girls squad improved to 14-4 on Monday with a 19-14 win over Teutopolis.
