    Vandalia’s sixth-straight trip to the dual team state wrestling finals ended in the first round with a loss to the eventual third-place finisher.

  • Patoka ousts South Central

    Patoka jumped out to an early lead in defeating South Central in regional play on Tuesday night at Odin.
    Jared Cain scored 20 points as four Warriors hit double figures in the regional win.
    Patoka led 9-6 after one quarter and outscored South Center 13-8 in the second to take a 22-14 lead into the locker room.
    The Warriors increased their lead with a 12-10 edge in the third quarter and sealed the win by holding a 27-20 edge in the fourth.

  • Mulberry Grove eliminates St....

    Mulberry Grove advanced to the second round of the regionals by defeating St. Elmo/Brownstown, 53-47, in an overtime contest on Monday.
    Ty James scored 18 points for the aces, and Austin Redfern added 15 as the Aces advanced to a second-round game against No. 1 seed Odin on Wednesday.
    Mulberry Grove scored seven points in the opening quarter while limiting the Eagles to a basket by Cole Smithson.

    Vandalia Community High School honored the senior members of the boys basketball team prior to last Thursday's final home contest of the year.

    Jered Cain of Patoka scored the 1,000th point of his high school basketball career when the Warriors hosted Sandoval on Feb. 6.

    Two weeks after losing to Staunton on a three-pointer with less than 10 seconds left in the game, the Vandals exacted their revenge on Monday night.


    Kendrick Woolsey had lost to his heavyweight opponent from Belleville Althoff twice this season, both times by the narrowest of margins. But, when his team needed it the most, Woolsey defeated Rodney Baker.

    Five Vandalia wrestlers advanced to the state tournament this weekend, and a sixth had his attempt thwarted by a freak injury.

    The eighth-grade Junior Lady Vandals won their own tournament on Saturday.
