  • Meyer, Gordon place at Carbondale

    The Vandalia Community High School boys track squad competed at Carbondale this Saturday.
    They brought home two placing performances, with Curtis Gordon continuing his early-season success in the pole vault, bringing home first place with a vault of 13 feet, 6 inches.
    Ethan Meyer also placed, finishing sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 11 inches.

  • Junior Wrestlers advance three...

    The Junior Vandals wrestling club participated at sectionals at Highland High School on Saturday. Between the Intermediate, Novice and Senior division, Vandalia placed eight wrestlers, with two first-place finishes.
    Finishing first were Logan Nance at 95 pounds in the Novice Division, and Anthony Enlow at 275 pounds in the Senior Division.  Nance won his championship match by 3-0 decision, while Enlow was able to secure a fall.

    Both the Vandalia girls and boys basketball teams were well represented on the South Central all-conference teams.
    For the boys, Junior Richie Well was named to the all-conference first team, while sophomore Nathan Casey was selected to the third team.
    For the girls, Senior Makayla Tinker, the Lady Vandals’ leading scorer, and Madelyn Hosick were selected to the all-conference second team, while Karlie Bright earned a spot on the third team.

    The fifth-grade Junior Vandals basketball team poses with their first-place trophy from the Hillsboro Hoopfest Tourney this weekend. In front, from left to right, are Preston Nestrick, Christian Duplayee, Aiden Polite, Cayden Hipsher, Chase McNary and Tristan McNutt. Back, from left to right, are Bostyn Cripe, Reid Well, Devon Peebles, Brayden Biggs, Dalton White, Matthew Hagy and Garrett Myers.
     

  • Boys and Girls Track season...

    The Vandalia Community High School girls and boys track team kicked off their season Saturday afternoon, competing in Principia’s Triad Indoor Invite.
    Highlighting the boys action, Curtis Gordon took first at pole vault with a height of 15 feet, 1 inch, setting a new school record. Zane Steele also finished in the pole vault, taking sixth with a vault of 11 feet.
    Ethan Meyer rounded out the action for the boys, placing third in the 400-meter with a time of 53.93 seconds. Meyer also placed in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet 4.5 inches.

  • Eagles, Cougars, Aces and...

    Mulberry Grove, South Central, St. Elmo/Brownstown and Patoka all won their respective games to open up regional play Monday and Tuesday night, while Ramsey fell to Central A&M, 111-59, to end its season Monday night.
    In the St. Elmo Regional, South Central found itself trailing Windsor/Stew-Stras, 40-33, heading into the fourth quarter.
    However, Cougar seniors Brett Harmeier and Dre Hill refused to let their high school careers come to an end, scoring a combined 15 points to help fuel a 23-point fourth quarter, as South Central came back to win, 56-50.
