  • Herker finishes 26th at state...

    Battling winds gusting up to 40 mph, Vandalia junior Derrick Herker finished in a tie for 26th at the Illinois State Golf Tournament last weekend, shooting a two-day total of 157 in Bloomington.

    “I’m ecstatic,” said first-year coach Brandon Taylor. “Hopefully, it shows him he can hang with the big dogs in the state tournament, and next year, he can go back and improve on his finish.”

  • Vandalia fights to finish in...

    PANA – With about a minute left in Friday’s night game against Pana, senior Matt Hoffman stormed through the Panthers’ offensive line and wrapped up quarterback Max Mosely for a sack.

    The play had no effect on the outcome of a 41-0 Pana victory, but it was one of three high-energy plays from the Vandals in the second half that showed the perseverance of a team which must win its final game on Friday against Greenville (7-1) to become playoff eligible.

  • Pana shuts down Vandalia, 41-0

    The Vandalia High School football team was shut out by Pana, 41-0, on Friday night.

    The Panthers (7-1) have allowed just 49 points all season and showed their superiority against the Vandals (4-4).

    Now, Vandalia is focusing all of its energy on beating Greenville at home next Friday to send its seniors out with a win and most likely earn a spot in the playoffs.

    The Vandalia High School soccer team concluded its season on Tuesday, falling, 7-0, to Mt. Carmel in regional action.

    Senior Austa Keppler had nine saves during his final game in goal for the Vandals.

    Six other seniors played their final match for Vandalia, which recorded its lone win of the season against Christ Our Rock Lutheran on Sept. 16.
